LIES MY LFS TOLD ME
We've all heard them at one time or another. Little
exaggerations of the truth. Margaret Cairns, of the UniQuaria newsgroup has come
up with a list of the more common explanations our LFS's try to pass off on us
in order to make a sale. My thanks to her for allowing me to post them on my
site.
"Oh, the big ones can be trouble, but this a dwarf
sub-species....."
"There aren't any side-effects..."
"It won't harm your plants."
"We quarantine our stock"
"That's not a dead fish, it's a leaf."
"Well, there's a dead fish in there - but it wasn't sick, it
got crushed by the net."
"Of course they're not hormone-dosed ....."
"We've got them onto flake..."
"These are a breeding pair..."
"These are an unrelated breeding pair..."
"Of course I know what sex they are..."
"Of course Ivy-leaf crypt can be grown submerse, it says
Crypt so it's a Cryptocoryne."
"If it wasn't an aquarium plant I wouldn't have it in
stock."
"These marginal plants aren't toxic"
"You don't have to worry about plants carrying infection"
"You don't have to worry about snails carrying infection"
"You can keep it with anything..."
"It's completely vegetarian..."
"No need to feed, it eats the roots of the plant"
"The females aren't aggressive."
"This kind are immune to ich..."
"They don't hybridize...."
"They won't get any bigger...."
"It's absolutely harmless..."
"You didn't buy that here!"
